I open the window in the back of the house most mornings. There isn’t really any world shaking reason for this. It just lets fresh air in and our old cat likes to sit on the windowsill and chat to birds that sit sunrise waiting in the pecan tree.

This morning’s fresh air fragranced gardenia in. I’m not sure if the kitty or the birds noticed, but it made this morning seem a bit more special, a small way that the world begged that I notice. And I did. Gardenias, even if but for a short season, even if seemingly small, mark their space in our seasons by creating unmistakably beautiful spaces right where they are.

“And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin:”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:28‬ ‭
