Book review: Porch Chair Prayers by Becky Sims

In the early hours of the morning, before the pitter patter of growing feet can be heard, you’ll most likely find me hidden in the living room with an animal (or two) curled up on the couch. The coffee pot will be heating up, the sun will be rising, and I’ll be on the Youversion Bible app. It’s one way I streamline my days to insure the Word gets in. It keeps me consistent and helps me focus my thoughts and plan my approach to the day.

...but the afternoons? My afternoon readings tend to be more topical in nature. It could be a word study, a devotional book, or even a faith-based nonfiction is often in the mix. So, when Becky Sims mentioned in Hopewriters that she had a new devotional coming out, I ordered it ASAP. With the weather warming up, her Porch Chair Prayers sounded heaven sent.

I’m only a few days in and I couldn’t wait to share what I’m loving about this book. First, can we all say amen to a font we can read without needing bifocals. The daily readings are concise but rich and the space for journaling is the exact amount of space I prefer. (Please tell me I’m not the only one that writes and highlights all over a good book.) This book is a keeper, the kind I’ll likely pull out again next spring as well. It would also work well in a morning basket for this time of year for homeschoolers.

Yesterday afternoon, I brought out our lawn chairs because the weather here has been a warming touch of glory. This afternoon, I’ll be planted in those chairs with Becky’s book.
