“Little Drummer Boy”

“Little Drummer Boy”, originally titled “𝖢𝖺𝗋𝗈𝗅 𝗈𝖿 𝗍𝗁𝖾 𝖣𝗋𝗎𝗆𝗌”, is a beloved Christmas Carol throughout the world. Both titles are nods to the repeating line 𝘱𝘢 𝘳𝘶𝘮 𝘱𝘶𝘮𝘱 𝘱𝘶𝘮 𝘱𝘶𝘮, alliteration to the sound imitation of a drum.

“Little Drummer Boy” has been attributed to Katherine K. Davis, Henry Onorati, and Harry Simeone. “Little Drummer Boy” has roots in an old Czech carol and gained popularity when the Trapp Family Singers recorded it in 1951, crediting Davis. It’s not one hundred percent certain who wrote the lyrics for the song; it’s unknown precisely who gets credit for its musical composition as well.

While “Little Drummer Boy” is often remembered for its repetitive lines that imitate a drum, the song’s lyrics reveal why it is considered a Christmas carol. It is about the birth of Jesus Christ and gifts presented to the newborn Jesus on the momentous day.

The Little Drummer Boy, the story of a poor boy who couldn’t afford a gift for newborn Christ Child, plays his drum at the manger with Mary’s approval. The baby smiles and is delighted with the Little Drummer Boy’s skillful playing. 𝗜𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻: 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙟𝙤𝙮𝙨. 𝖩𝗈𝗒 𝗍𝗁𝖺𝗍 𝖼𝖺𝗇𝗇𝗈𝗍 𝖻𝖾 𝖼𝗈𝗇𝗍𝖺𝗂𝗇𝖾𝖽 𝗂𝗇 𝖺 𝖻𝗈𝗑 𝗈𝗋 𝗁𝖾𝗅𝖽 𝗍𝗂𝗀𝗁𝗍 𝖻𝗒 𝖺 𝖻𝗈𝗐.
